Wedding Cake + Favor = Two In One

I’m sure this is out there somewhere but the idea just floated into my head as I was finishing up on the post “Should I Let You Eat Cake At My Wedding?

As I have mentioned in the post, I don’t think the guests would have enough room in their stomach to eat cake. However, what if you let the guest take the cake home? Here’s my vision of how this would work for a Chinese banquet:

You have your normal cake cutting ceremony with a fake or real cake. During dessert time, when you would normally serve the cake, have the cake prepared in individual servings or use cupcakes. The servers will bring out platters with those cakes/cupcakes along with Chinese take out boxes (personalized or not). This way guests can either eat the cake or put them in the take out boxes to take home with them as a favor.

Another use for the take out boxes is for the left over food. I find that by the time it gets to the fried rice and noodles, there are plenty of food left over. Since Chinese food are kind of greasy, you can line the boxes with parchment or wax paper to keep it cleaner. It’ll also make it easier to take out the food.

Hi there! At some weddings I’ve been to, they “boxed” up individual slices of cake as a favor. Usually its pre-packaged and ready to go at the beginning of the banquet (providing they’re not using fresh cream). I think you’re on the right track though with no wanting to waste the cake, as typically, chinese people don’t eat cake after they’ve had a 10 course meal.

As for takeout boxes for leftover food, your chinese venue can provide that so you don’t have to spend extra money buying those fancy take-out boxes unless you’re planning on filling it with something other than food! Just a thought!

The thought that the cake will be going into the garbage just seems wrong. I wonder what else we can do about it. I know cupcakes are very popular but again, with a 10-12 course Chinese banquet, it seems a little too much at the end.
