Reception Decoration Ideas - Candles, Rice & Fishbowl
I went to another wedding in May. It took place in the Meadow Garden Golf Course out in Pitt Meadows. I didn’t take too many photos but did managed to snap some of the decorations.
The table centre pieces were a fishbowl filled with rice and a candle sits in the centre. They also scattered some shiny marbles/stones in the bowl and around the outside. Rose pedals of three different colours surround the bowl as a finishing touch.

Rice is actually getting quite expensive. So my friend jokingly asked the guests to take home the centre pieces as there’s about 3-4 days worth of rice in there. Here’s the flower for the head table. The golf course was nice enough to let us decorate the place the day before and we had left the flower in their fridge over night to keep it fresh.

Here’s the cake and a close up of the cake topper. The cake is from Maxim Bakery. I wasn’t too impressed with their service. The delivery person came earlier than schedule and didn’t look like he know want he was doing as he just slap the layers on top of each other. As you can see the cake is slightly slanted (sorry I know the picture is slanted also but you can tell that the top layer is off centre if you compare it to the middle layer). We had also decorated the cake table with rose pedals.

The Precious Moments cake topper was a bargin since the price tag was still on the packaging. I saw that the original price was $75 and it was on sale for $15! I didn’t know cake toppers are so expensive. Maybe it was priced in another currency like Hong Kong dollars? I would have to find out.

It was a real cake from Maxim Bakery, made with fresh cream and has chestnut cream filling. I can’t believe it held up for so long (about 1.5 hours) but it did. The cream was melting by the time the cake cutting ceremony was over thought. I help cut the rest of the cake for serving and it was kind of icky to have slab of cream everywhere.
The cake topper was an actual cake topper made out of plastic. It’s light even thought it looks bulky. I’m not sure what fake cakes are made of but if the porcelain doll isn’t too big then it should hold. Best to check with bakery though. Where are you getting your cake from? I’m also considering fake cake and the only place I know that has them is Anna Cake House.
Hi Jan, thanks for answering my question. Your friend probably shouldn’t have left the fresh cream cake out for so long. On Anna’s website, it says that fresh cream is unstable if left at room temperature for a period of time.
I’m getting my cake from Anna’s because we want a chinese cake. In my opinion, although fondant looks beautiful, it doesn’t taste very good. Some caucasian places have fake cake rentals too…if you want some names, I can see if I still have the ones I found during my research.
I agree with the delivery of the cake problem. That happened to me once and now I go on all of the deliveries myself to make sure it’s done right. Other than the slant, it looks beautiful, and I love the topper!
Hi Piece a Cake Bakery, thanks for dropping by. I browsed around your website and loved the Apple ibook cake.
Hi Jan! Nelson was just telling me about your trip with him and twins for beginning of August and found you have so many blogs!
About the cake topper, I actually got it for Ying @ Michael’s. It’s $75.00 Cdn regular price and I found it on sale for $15.00! This was a GREAT deal since it is precious moments! Cake toppers ranges from $35 - $80, what a rip off! I later sold it on Craig’s list for $35! hehehe ![]()
Wow! That is a good deal! $75 for a cake topper. Yikes. I guess it’s something you can keep. Maybe I should hit Michael’s more often!
If you ever go to Michael’s, always ask if they have 40% off regular price (1 item only per customer). But you can go a few times or have your friends go along with you to get the deal. Most of the weeks, they have 40% deals. You can find it on their flyers and cut out the coupon or simply go to the cashier and tell them you want 40% off. If w/o a coupon, you just need to write your postal code.
Good luck!

About the cake topper - did you friend have a fake cake or a real one? Was the topper meant to be a topper, or a regular Forever friends porcelain doll?
I want to use on a FF porcelain doll (regular kind, not just a “topper”) as our cake topper. We’re going with a fake cake but I’m worried that it might cave in (do you think it will be too heavy)??
