Dress Picking for Prewedding Photos with HN Wedding

This afternoon Al and I went to HN Wedding to pick out dresses for our pre-wedding photoshoot on July 25. My package includes 4 gowns – 2 evening gowns and 2 wedding gowns. The photoshoot are basically classify as two locations, “indoors” meaning at the studio itself and “outdoors” which are anything outside the HN Wedding studio, even if it’s at another location that is inside a building.

Sandy greeted us and brought us upstairs to the gowns and changing area. I love it there because of the big comfy couch, the soft red carpet and the huge space in front of the big mirrors where you can dance around with the dress to see how it looks like. After a short discussion on where our photoshoot location will be (Hycroft, Gastown and maybe the beach for sun set), Sandy went to gather a handful of wedding gowns for me to try on. We were not allowed to take photos so I’ll try to find ones online that looks similar.

For the studio photos, I’ve chosen a white wedding gown with no beadings or laces. It’s simple yet elegant. The bottom of the gown looks like this one from David’s Bridal, where parts of it is gathered to create a ruffled, puffy look. It can be accented with a colour sash around the waist. Al really liked this dress.

You will not believe what Al and Sandy picked for me as the evening gown. I will not post a picture here so it’ll come as a surprise (and probably a shock to some of you) when you see the photos. The dress is nicknamed “Moulin Rouge”. It’s red with lots of ruffles from the waist all the way down to the long train. It’s very…bold. That’s about all that I’m going to describe. If you’ve seen the movie you probably have an idea how it looks.

For the outdoor shoot, we all decided on a very vintage style wedding gown to suit the atmosphere of the Hycroft Mansion. It’s got laces on the front and shiny beadings along the dress. There was another one that I liked, which is made out of a lot of laces. It’s extremely heavy and since I might be wearing it for the beach, I decided to go with the lighter one.

As for the evening gown, Sandy had originally suggested purple but I’m not big fan of that colour so we settled for one that is champaign. Here’s a picture of the dress from the HN Wedding gallery.

So what do you think of the dresses? I think I’ll look very different in them consider that I don’t wear dresses often. I purposely choose dresses for a more hi-fashion/sexy look because I don’t think I’m the cute, princess type of person. Although, there is this one dress that I really liked. It’s almost like one of those ballerina tutus. It’s in a beige colour with lots of ruffles so it’s very puffy. With a pair of wings, a magic wand and a tiara I’ll be a little fairy. It’s so cute that I’m actually thinking about going back to take some personal photos with it, along with the black and white vintage wedding dress! If only black isn’t a taboo colour, or I would pick that one for the photoshoot.

After the dress picking which took three hours (and I’ve probably tried on about 20 different dresses), Sandy gave us a little run down on what the photoshoot will be like and what we should bring. Vivian also told us that they will give us a call the day before as a reminder also. I really enjoyed my experience with Sandy and Vivian. Sandy was a big help in picking out the dresses and explaining why she had chosen them – what stands out and why it works for the location. I’m really excited now and can’t wait for the photoshoot!

Thanks for posting such a long review. I’m sure you’re going to have lots of fun. FI and I had a great time during our pre-wedding shoot too! How long did HN say they will take to give the pictures to you?

As for the night shooting, I guess it might be something like this?

Hi Xiaobee, yes but most of their night photos are more fashion/magazine type. I’ll see if they will be able to post some since I know my friends are also interested in the night photoshoot.
