HN Wedding VIP Dresses?

A few weeks ago, Brenda had made a comment on an earlier post about the VIP dresses from HN Wedding. I was curious about this but was on vacation at the time so I didn’t get a chance to find out until recently when I went back to HN Wedding to view the photos.

Vivian explained that the dresses upstairs are available for the photoshoot as well as wedding day rental. The VIP dresses are actually located off site. The VIP dresses are mostly new and are consigned with the designers. They don’t own the dresses (unlike the ones at the studio), Which is why there is a $600 fee for rental and dry cleaning.  Since the dresses are not at the studio, I was not able to see how they look like.

I know some people would like to wear a new dress for the wedding day, especially one that their fiance had never seen before. In my case Al had see me in at least 1/3 of the gowns at the studio but I’m sure I’ll still be able to surprise him with something!

Thinking back, when I went to tour the studio, I remember thinking whether I’d like the gowns they have. I’ve actually never worn a gown before (I went to my high school grad with a Chinese style top and dress) so I don’t even know how I’d look in one. During the dress picking session, I remember thinking some of the dresses don’t look good on me at all, especially the red dress. But it turned out really good in the photos. I guess it’s very different when the dress is by itself and when combined with the setting of the photoshoot.

Hi Jan,

Hm… The other girl at HN actually pulled out a couple of VIP dresses out to show us when we were there…. and she never mentioned anything about consignment etc… if they don’t own the dresses and they are brand new, it makes sense for the extra charge. However, she told us those dresses were extra $$ because of the dry-cleaning cost and higher risk of them being damaged. I guess it’s all about the presentation of why they have VIP dresses… we were totally confused about what she was saying… and it got worse when she tried to explain why there was extra charges. She also told us the VIP dresses were samples that they make for brides who want to order a new gown through them…

Maybe it was a total miscommunication… maybe she wasn’t experience enough to tell us clearly why there was extra charges… I really don’t know. But in the end, we just lost the trust and confidence… although we absolutely love the photos and Jackson’s technique… we have to give up and go to a different place.

We have decided to go to Wedding Story.. also after reading the information from your site.. THANK YOU! We feel a lot more comfortable there… everything seems more open and clear… and the price is not bad too. John will be at our wedding with abother photographer… and we looked at alot of pictures from previous weddings at their studio.. they take an average of 1500 to 2000 pics for the wedding day. I also really love the fact that the package even includes limo, an assistant to stay with you the whole day to make sure your dress is ok, for an additional $100 the make-up artist will also stay with you the whole day and change your hair-do for you if you need… also includes video! Their video, I must say, is AMAZING!!! The video that they can make was the reason why we decided to go with them. They do commercial video shoots regularly… and we just really love the non-boring editing they do… so everything is included!! I don’t have to go through any more head aches!!

Their wedding gowns at Wedding Story are a little out-dated though.. but I have bought myself a very very beautiful gown … so I will just use their gowns for the pre-wedding pics.

Brenda

Wow that package sounds nice. Did you went with the most expensive one? We weren’t planning to have video which is why I never asked John about it. I do know they have that option. John has a very nice photography style so I’m sure your pictures will turn out perfect!

Yes their bride assistant is a very attractive service. It’s always nice to have hair/makeup change for the evening. John didn’t mention the limo service, I wonder if that’s for the most expensive package only since I was looking at one with a slightly lower price.

A friend of mine had also booked Wedding Story for her wedding. I can’t wait to see how the pictures will turn out for you guys!

So you mean the $600 for the VIP dresses is on top of the package price? What kind of designers?

Hi Xiaobee,

Yes that $600 should be on top of the package price. And I did not inquire about the designers since I wasn’t interested in renting the special gowns. I wonder if they are imported. Maybe I’ll ask next time. :)

Interesting comments here. I have a friend who went to rent dresses at HN last year. She picked one of the VIP dresses.. n because her husband wanted her to wear a BRAND NEW dress, they agreed that if my friend pay extra $$, they would hold the dress for them n will make sure no one uses it before they do. So my friend ended up paying the extra.
About a month before her wedding, she went to another friend’s wedding. When she saw her friend’s dress, she was SHOCKED!! Her friend is wearing the same dress she picked!! Later on she went to ask n found out that the dress was the same one from HN.. So my friend went to HN to ask n they said it was an ACCIDENT* My friend would not take that as an excuse because she already paid the extra. So she cancelled everything and went to another place. I personally think HN is not honest and the way they do business is very tricky.

It’s a lot different story from different person. I think it’s just depends what you care. I rent one VIP dress from H.N wedding also, and I pay $600 extra. It’s not brand new, too. but I can understand why VIP dress need to pay extra. Vivian(one of person working in HN) actually told me really detail about VIP dress’s quality and why different price. I totally can understand. and I love the dress I book. Maybe sometime misunderstand makes different story.

i personally like H.N’s dresses. They always have new arrivals and latest style shipping from asia, including evening dresses as well. i heard about their VIP dresses too. and the lady who works there clearly explain how to order them .it understandable that cost extra money once you see the dress. if you really hoping to get new dresses or something different for your wedding day, ask them for detail while choosing dresses,i’m sure they will be happy to help. About the story Susan said…sorry but i most say it’s not believable.. i took my pre-wedding photo at HN and i know ppl there very well. i can certainly tell you they won’t do that mistake, especially they are all professional and trusted.

After reading the comments here (thank you for such an informative site! ^^), I paid a visit to Wedding Story. Their packages are really attractive and I’m very tempted to make a deposit. My only hestitation is wedding gown/evening dress selection. Although many of their packages include 2 wedding gowns and even a few bridesmaids’ dresses, I find their dress selection very limited and seem a bit old. (I’ve yet to actually try one on) I’m wondering if anyone have feedback on their service or comments on their dresses?

Hi Irene,

A friend of mine had booked their pre-wedding photos with Wedding Story. I’m not sure if she had hers taken yet but I’ll ask when I meet up with her next time. A friend of hers who had recommended Wedding Story mentioned that their service is pretty good. But I didn’t hear anything about their dresses though.

Thanks Jan! I’d love to hear more feedbacks from past customers there! I ended up booking with them last weekend despite the fact of the relatively poor quality of dresses. I just love their photo style and that weights more than the dress style for the photoshoot for me ^^ But I’ve decided to forego the wedding gown they’ll provide for the wedding day in exchange for a split album (1 album for pre-wedding and 1 album for wedding day pics) So now I have to shop/rent for THE dress for my wedding day :)

Hi Ladies,

I would strongly suggest that you DO NOT go with HN Wedding. Sure, they probably have the best dresses and that’s what we girls care about on our wedding day. But when things went wrong for us and we were not happy with the photos, Vivian (who is a sly and tricky FOX), first asked, “Well, what didn’t you like about the photos?”. And for us, it was poor lighting and lack of skill; as well as our poses and our expressions. So knowing that, she responded, “We cannot control lighting / if it gets dark soon (because we took our pictures in January) then we cannot help that. IT is not our fault. And the poses, this is why we have very many for you to chose from. I think you look nice. We cannot redo the pictures because of that.” Etc. Etc. Etc. No matter what I said, and no matter that I, as a customer, was unsatisfied, she would not redo the photos. Even when I told her, “Well, knowing that the sun sets early in the winter, we should have headed out at 10am, instead of you being late for our appointment, arriving at 10:30am, and then us leaving the studio at 2pm. Seriously? 2.5 hours of shooting?”

And did you know too that Vivian and Jackson are husband and wife. I don’t know why she likes to pretend that they’re not together. And I’m 90% sure that they actually own the place but pretend to have a “boss” so that they can blame everything on the boss if things don’t pan out. “Sorry. I would really like to help you but this is our company policy.” Bull crap! She is the boss. She gets to make all the decisions!

So on an ethics point of you ladies, I would sooooo not go with HN. I’m telling all my girlfriends the same. Everything is fine and dandy if things go well. But if you’re unhappy with ANYTHING, there’s no such thing as “please the customers no matter what”. No. It’s all about “What’s in it for HN”.

Hi Ashley,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

I believe that everyone will have their own experience when working with a vendor, whether it’s photos, flowers, venues or banquet, since all of us are unique and have different needs. It’s nice to learn about others’ experiences so you’d have references about their service. Whether it’s negative or positive comments, take it as a grain of salt and make your own judgement after you’ve dealt with the vendors. If you’re unclear about something or have any concerns, it’s best to inquire with the vendors before making any commitments.

This is what I’ve learned from doing events planning and the reason why I’ve decided to make this site – to give bride-to-be more information and insight on vendors (especially ones for Chinese/Asian weddings).
