DIY Invitation – Sample

Ok here’s a rough draft of the invitations. This is the brown version. We’ve decided to go with a red card instead as red is the main colour. Now I have to buy the ivory paper for the insert as well as finding the right envelopes.

It took me about 10-15 minutes to make this sample so I might recruit some help for assembling them later on.

Very cute. Does it open from the top?

Hi Xiaobee,

Yes it opens from the top. I’m thinking of maybe adding a map inside as well but will need to see how much room I have to play with.

so I went to making memories on Boxing day, and spent $60 on cardstock!!! Never have I spent so much on paper it’s crazy.
Here is a great website for DIY brides:
http://www.i-do-it-yourself.com/tag/envelopes/
This page has info on printable FREE invitations from HP! They look absolutely professional and worth a million bucks! it might be a little late for you, but other ideas on there are worth checking out!

Where are you, Jan? You haven’t updated your blog for a long time!

Hi guys! It’s been a while. My apologies for “disappearing” the past couple of months. There had been some personnel changes in the company I work at and I’ve been given a lot of responsibilities since. Thus I haven’t had time to update here (but I did managed to update my personal blog…). In addition, there were some major life changes as well. I’ll post about that later this week.

Dana: I think in total my I’ve spent about $120 on the invitation materials so far. I’m still missing the envelops and insert but those should be about $30. My estimate for 100 invitations is about $1.25 each. Hopefully it’s still with in my estimated budget! And thanks for the website, it gave me some ideas for designing my friend’s wedding invitations.

Look forward to reading your updated blog!

This could really help out your friend then. Check out Michael’s for their wedding invitation. It’s on sale once in a while (40%off), and it’s so so so beautiful. After the sale I think the price will be less than 1 dollar per invitation. Check out their website and keep your eyes peeled for future sales or simply drop by for inspirations.

I have some zip folders of amazing flourishes, dividers and fonts that I got from another bride. if you are intrested, just email me.

oh, btw, you may already know but for more inspirations, theknot.com is just awesome. Check out its wedding photos.
I have also been visiting weddingbells forums too. It’s super helpful. I think I have seen xiaobee there too.

Hi Dana,

Thanks for the tip. Al and I have looked at the invitations from Michael’s but we decided to go with DIY because we have more colours to choose from (especially since we wanted red to match the Chinese “themed” wedding lol).

I have to agree that theknot.com has a lot of great ideas and tips. I love browsing their cakes and centerpieces photos for ideas.
