Golden Plaza – Wedding Mall in Hong Kong
During my trip to Hong Kong, I was able to visit the Golden Plaza (金都商場) to check out some wedding items. It was an overwhelming experience. The are so many different vendors that fills up three levels of the plaza. I’ve heard that you’d be able to plan and buy all your wedding needs there and it’s true. There are photo studios, bridal wear and grooms wear stores, as well as stores that sells wedding related items.
I didn’t spend time looking at each of the photo studios because I’ve already taken my photos here. Most of my time were spent looking at decorations. There are so many wedding favors, boxes, red envelops (they have like 30+ different ones you can choose from), signing pens, car decorations, tea sets and even dowry baskets it’d make your head spin. I didn’t get a chance to take pictures because store owners didn’t allow it so I was only able to sneak a few shots from outside the store.
Here’s a store that sells both bride and groom clothing. The shirts are around $100-$150 HK dollars (that’s like around $20 Canadian). Most of the gowns are for rent but you can also get it custom made. Also not only are there lots of variation of wedding gowns, there are lots of designs of groom’s suit as well. I find that some of them are over the top though. They look more like stage costumes than wedding wear.
Check out all these dress shoes! There are 2-3 stores (or more that I might have missed) that seem to only sell dress shoes. They are not expensive at all. You’d definitely be able to find a pair to match your wedding gown. I was also told that you can get shoes custom made.
This is a place that sells silk flower bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres. There are lots of different colours and flower varieties to choose from. They also make car decorations. Al and I have bought our car decoration from this place. You can choose to have a stuffed animal or a bouquet as the center piece. The bow can be made with Japanese paper, ribbon or other material depending on the usage. We had originally picked the Japanese paper for the bow since it looked really elegant. However since we’re carrying the decor on the plane, plus the fact that Vancouver rains so much, we opt for a more water-proof and wrinkle-proof material.
The bouquets ranges from a couple hundreds HK dollars and up. It’s very economical. You can use it as the toss bouquet or even get it to decorate your venue.
During my visit, I’ve also found something useful for the tea ceremony. They have package of paper tea cups with the double happiness design printed on red cups. I heard that because tea set usually comes with 4 cups and elderly people don’t like to drink from an already used cup (even thought some people actually don’t drink the tea). That’s why some couple would use the ceramic tea set for pouring tea to mom and dad and maybe the grandparents. Then for aunts and other guests, they’d use the paper cup. This way your bridesmaids won’t have to keep washing the tea cups (this is what we’ve done for the weddings I’ve helped out) and the flow of the tea ceremony won’t be delayed (due to washing of the cups).

Hi love_story,
Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to take pictures of the paper tea cups. They are very small, like those sampling cups you get from drink samples. All of the ones I’ve seen comes in shades of red with the double happiness design printed on them. I found this while searching for an example for you, maybe it’ll give you a better idea: http://ow.ly/1Rc0L
Personally I don’t really like them. But I was told it’s really for convenience, and you don’t use the paper cups for the elderly (such as grandparents and parents) but for aunts and uncles or older siblings it’s OK.
Thanks for the photo Jan.
I’m like you and dont really like them…but I can see how it saves time washing cups especially if you have 30 ppl waiting around for the tea.
Hi there Jan, do you have the name card or the contact of the silk flower decoration shop? I went last year during the early wedding prep and totally loved the shop. However, in the rush to get the kua & other stuff, I didn’t get the chance to revisit the shop.
Hi Sharon,
I tried to look for the business card and the receipt but I couldn’t find them. Sorry I wasn’t able to help you on this. Do you know anyone from HK that might be able to locate the store for you? I believe it was the only one that specializes in silk flowers.
Hi Jan, thanks for trying. I have some frens going to HK for holidays and such. Have just asked them for help. Cheers!
